Sunshine. No wind.Etat de la route : open dry

S-facing slopes snow well transformed. W-facing slopes supportive crust on surface. Cutters / couteaux / ski-crampons needed for ascent of some sections – but descent on skis was nice on the crust.
But cutters / couteaux / ski-crampons not sufficient for getting through the short steep crux section above the Sechette lake, because of hard re-frozen water ice surface – so instead I took skis off and climbed with my ski boots (no crampons) on the left (W) side using rocks (not as easy on rock as I expected). But descent of that crux on skis (entering E side, then traverse across to W) with no problem.

Compte rendu
direct to Chalet des Gardes (not via Lac des Vaches)
I followed the more direct Variation 1 of this English-language route description (www.camptocamp.org/routes/48108/en/col-de-la-gliere-versant-s), and descended the same way – so I got more sustained interesting skiing, with nice surface all the way down.
. . (Even though lower down I descended Variation 1 on the N side, I was then able to traverse SW and rejoin the main track, so I could descend all the way to Refuge Barmettes (except the last creek crossing on the foot-bridge).
Interesting varied route with great views, and good fun skiing down. Only shortcoming was the need to take skis off to get up past the crux.
Surprised that no one else was doing that tour on a perfect weekend day. I met a party of three on ascent a ways past the Chalet Garde, but then they went off a different way.
